Up Spain, Up Group’s spanish subsidiary specializing in employee benefits management, launched an initiative to promote reading among kindergarten and elementary school children.
This initiative started out in 2015 in the HR Department of Up Spain: initially, the idea was to find a nice way to celebrate Book Day. During this event which highlighted Up Spain’s commitment to the social economy, employees organized a collection of books for kindergarten and elementary school children. At the same time, the company itself bought books that were of interest to institutions, having to do with teaching values, and simply donated these books to said institutions for their collections.
This simple idea became magical when volunteers from our company visited schools to explain to the children that we were in solidarity with them, and that in our company, our responsibility was to improve our environment through our actions. In addition, an employee who knows sign language told a story to the children, and seeing them so attentive was a great emotional moment.
This action enabled us to be present in an area outside of the company, and once again to realize how involved our employees are in solidarity activities, and also see how important it is to be enthusiastic and work together towards a common goal.
The action consisted in imitating the Catalan tradition on the day of Saint Jordi, exchanging books for a gelatin flower; and hoping to see all of our employees’ tables covered with flowers at the end of the campaign.
Our goal is to always try to make our modest contribution to improve and help our environment, that is the commitment of Up Spain which is formulated by the HR Department in an active approach to CSR.
We clearly affirm our status as a social economy enterprise: for us, this is a commitment that we put into practice every day.
